Cresta Jameson Celebrates 65 years of quality guest service
Harare’s Cresta Jameson Hotel is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, thus marking six and half decades of hospitality service to visitors from all over the world.
Cresta Jameson was first opened in late 1958 during an economic boom that saw the transformation of what is now Samora Machel Avenue, in the Harare CBD, into a major centre for financial institutions and head offices of large corporations. The Jameson was situated alongside new multi-storey buildings and was the first port of call for visitors and others wishing to enjoy high-quality hospitality services at close hand.
The hotel was doubled in size during a major renovation project 12 years later, and during the 1970s became the first hotel in the country to achieve a four-star status. Today the Jameson stands proudly as Cresta Hotels’ African Urban Hearbeat hotel which offers a true African hotel experience in the heart of Harare.
Cresta Jameson offers services that meet the expectations of guests who prefer accommodation, banqueting and conference options in the central business district at competitive price and is especially popular among local and regional travellers.
In the past three years, Cresta Jameson has undergone a major refurbishment programme, involving upgrading of all 121 bedrooms, refurbishment of all public areas and banqueting rooms and revamping of the main kitchen.
In addition, the well-known and much-loved Tiffany’s restaurant has been re-opened after a closure of about 10 years, providing a fine dinning experience for residents and casual visitors.
Guest security and privacy have been enhanced with control of access to guest facilities and certain public areas with the use of guest key cards to ensure that only guests can access common areas. Parking is always an issue in the city centre, but Cresta Jameson has facilitated guest parking with a secure and well-managed private car park facility adjacent to the hotel building.
State-of-the-art conferencing equipment has also been installed in the Cresta Jameson conference venues which allows delegates to connect with other people anywhere in the world. This equipment uses broadband internet connectivity to ensure participants have interruption-free meetings.
