Another edition of the Biggest Braai activity in Zimbabwe – The Castle Lager Zimbabwe National Braai Day – is set to be held on 28 October 2017 at Old Hararians Sport Club in Harare. Last year saw a record of 12 680 kgs of meat consumed and this year that is expected to increase to a whopping 15 000 kg.
Event organisers from Delta Beverages have urged Zimbabweans to come together to make the Guinness Book of Records by surpassing the 15 000 kg target. Most importantly, the equivalent of whatever amount of food is eaten on the day will be donated by Castle Lager to Harare and Mpilo Hospitals in the city.
“We’re encouraging everyone to participate in this worthy cause remembering that for every glass of Castle Lager raised, the cheer goes way beyond the beer to help our brothers and sisters who are hospitalised especially during the festive season,” said a Delta Beverages representative in a statement.
The campaign for Zimbabwe’s National Braai Day took off in 2016 with a referendum where Castle Lager consumers were asked to vote to make the last Saturday of October the official Castle Lager National Braai Day. Over 200 000 votes were cast within a week of the campaign launch. Other than food, there will also be a selection of drinks on offer from Delta Beverages, who plan to set up a 150 metre-long bar to serve the large crowd.
As a build up to the Castle Lager National Braai Day, the brand is encouraging Zimbabweans to get out in service of others with their ‘Month of Service Challenge’ in October. By partaking in daily challenges including litter pick-up, donating blood, recycling and helping the elderly, supporters stand a chance of winning prizes which can be seen here.
The Castle Lager Braai Day is set to kick off from 12h00 on Saturday 28 October with performances by Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Andy Muridzo, ExQ and Freeman. Entrance to the venue is $5.00 and this includes a braai pack and a litre of Castle Lager. Visitors also stand the chance to win braai set prizes including braai stands, cooler boxes, aprons, tongs, forks and t-shirts.
