Okavango Delta Sunsets – Photoblog

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Okavango Delta is a vast inland delta lying deep within the Kalahari Basin in Botswana. A 15000km² maze of glistening lagoons, winding channels, lush islands, and sprawling grassy plains, it is one of the last great wildlife sanctuaries in Africa.

Each year, the Delta is officially formed as more than 11 cubic km of water spills into the otherwise arid Kalahari Desert by way of the Okavango River, originating in the Angola highlands. This seasonal flooding is what makes this region so very special, providing year-round sustenance to endless wildlife, birdlife and plant species.

Game to be spotted within the Okavango Delta includes elephant, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, African wild dog, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, and much more! In addition to the diverse array of animals in the Delta, it is also home to over 500 species of birds, more than 150 species of reptiles, and over 1500 species of plants.

It goes without saying that the Okavango Delta is one of the most breathtakingly-beautiful places in the world. To give you just a glimpse of what to expect on your next, of first trip to this largely untouched paradise, we’ve put together a photoblog of Okavango Delta sunsets. Because what’s better than watching the sun go down over one of Mother Nature’s great masterpieces.
